Avara Construction recently completed the renovation of the iconic Harbor Steps plaza in downtown Seattle. This extensive project, commissioned by Equity Residential and designed by GGLO, reimagined the 107-step thoroughfare connecting First Avenue to Western Avenue. The year-long renovation was executed in three phases to maintain public access.
Reimagining this space included installing new pavers, redesigning four fountains with Italian black granite, increasing landscaped areas, and adding new seating and wayfinding elements. Our team also implemented significant upgrades to the waterproofing, electrical, and plumbing systems, with a focus on sustainability through energy-efficient pumps, water-efficient irrigation, and the use of renewable materials.
This revitalized urban space not only enhances pedestrian connectivity between downtown and the Seattle Waterfront but will also serve as a prime location for the 2026 World Cup fan zone.
