Avara Construction has successfully completed the extensive renovation of Harbor Steps, an iconic pedestrian plaza in downtown Seattle. Commissioned by Equity Residential and designed by GGLO, this project reimagined the 107-step thoroughfare, enhancing its role as a vital connection between First Avenue and Western Avenue.
Spanning a year, the renovation was executed in three phases to ensure continued public access while upgrading the space with modern, sustainable, and aesthetic improvements.
Key Project Highlights:
- New Pavers & Seating – The plaza now features refreshed pathways and integrated seating areas for public enjoyment.
- Redesigned Water Features – Four stunning fountains have been rebuilt using Italian black granite, offering a sleek, modern look.
- Expanded Landscaping – Additional green spaces enhance the aesthetic and ecological value of the plaza.
- Sustainability Upgrades – Energy-efficient pumps, water-saving irrigation, and renewable materials were incorporated.
- Infrastructure Enhancements – Improved waterproofing, electrical, and plumbing systems increase the longevity and functionality of the space.
- Improved Wayfinding – New signage and navigation elements enhance the pedestrian experience.
This revitalized urban plaza not only strengthens connectivity between downtown Seattle and the waterfront but is also set to become a prime location for the 2026 FIFA World Cup fan zone, further solidifying its importance as a landmark gathering space.
