We love our Avara team members, and we want to share their passion for innovating better ways to build. This month, we’re shining the spotlight on Ben Petter, Founder and President of Avara.
Before venturing into construction, Ben’s career revolved around real estate investment. It didn’t take long for Ben to notice a common pitfall for his clients: It’s difficult to find a construction contractor who consistently keeps their service promises.
As a result, he started Avara Construction in 2015. His promise was to build a culture that prioritizes supporting their team at all layers, and empowering them to do the right thing for the client.
“We want to create an environment where each individual is excited to be part of our team–eager to go above and beyond to create a great experience for our clients. We want them to feel supported, especially when it comes to making independent decisions and realizing personal goals,” said Ben Petter.
Avara team members consider the multi-layered relationships in construction when making decisions on behalf of their clients. A decentralized decision-making model allows the team to be more productive and efficient.
“We focus on the success of our service partners. We ensure they have a productive job site, a well-supported management team, and that they’re paid on time. Because of this, our service partners consistently prioritize our work in front of our competitors and give us their best teams.”
This doesn’t mean Ben’s commitment to his internal team is ever compromised.
“Prioritizing the success of our teammates is paramount to our work. We invest in the career paths of our people and ensure everyone has the balance they’re looking for. We keep our promises to our team, and we promote a culture of ownership.” Ben continued, “Our team is willing to do whatever it takes to make sure our jobs run smoothly, and our clients’ needs are prioritized. While Ben can often be found at the Avara office in Redmond, Washington, his weekends are reserved for his passion for adventure sports. He spends his free time exploring the outdoors on his dirt bike, mountain bike, on foot, on skis, on water, or by air with his incredible wife Lauren and stepdaughter Townley.
While navigating the unique challenges presented by the COVID pandemic has certainly introduced unique challenges to the construction industry, Ben is optimistic about the future of the Puget Sound region.
“In our business, we have the incredible opportunity to be an active part of supporting growth in our region. I’ve been fortunate to call the Seattle area home my entire life, and I embrace opportunities to invest in improving our community and the lives of those around us. We look forward to continuing to find new ways to keep Seattle growing and creating opportunities for all.”
